Here with the first pieces of a project I have been waiting to share. A @waxingpoetic collaboration with @cherylstrayed that has been one of the most memorable because of how it unfolded and how timely these words are. The project began back in the beginning of the year, as the pandemic mounted. Our friend @jenpastiloff introduced me to Cheryl and thought she might like to join our Poetic Giving mission. Cheryl said yes, and sent me words, each poetic fragment tied to her own courageous wayfinding experiences. I have to tell you, I had a heart moment while I was setting her words “fear is born of a story we tell ourselves” into the talisman, because I know this to be true (but I also needed the reminder). As I, like many of us, dare to be more radical, to rise up and protect each other, and to unify, we are transitioning the story we have been telling ourselves. Transitioning that story from fear to love. So here they are, these first pieces from what we are calling “the Wild project” in honor of Cheryl’s liberating book. We are grateful to have the opportunity to donate 100% of the net profits to @outdoorafro - supporting their truly cutting edge organization committed to connecting Black people with nature, and changing the face of leadership in the outdoors. Also - I had the pleasure of interviewing Cheryl and asked her many of the questions we are all asking ourselves and each other. She shared some really powerful insights (and if you listen to her podcast @dearsugars you know she gives thoughtful, empathetic advice!). Look out for the story on the Waxing Poetic site this week. One good act leads to another, and there is so much power in helping each other along the path. This project is proof of that. As another piece in the collection says, “when the path reveals itself, follow it.” Walking it with the belief in ourselves and each other.
